My Wife’s Mental Powers · 15 May 2009
Sometimes I hate it when she does it. Sometimes I love it when she does it. And I am always amazed when she does it. When my wife, The Mindboggling Mrs. Miyoshi, reads my mind, it is an amazing thing. It is like she has ESP.
I am sure that being married for almost 13 years has nothing to do with The Mindboggling Mrs. Miyoshi’s ability to read my mind. After all, she can read body language and hear inflections and sense attitudes like most people. Living in the same house and spending time together certainly raise awareness of each other. But there are times when I think that I have taken out all sarcasm, cynicism, and undertone from a comment and she still catches my unspoken meaning. Like the other day when I said something seemingly innocuous about one of the kids and The Mindboggling Mrs. Miyoshi picked up on a criticism that I actually tried not to give. Or at least thought better of after she berated me for thinking it.
While I know that having your wife seemingly read your mind is not proof positive of some uncanny ability, my wife does have other seemingly supernatural mental powers. Unfortunately, those abilities do not include telekinesis, the ability to move objects with the mind. If she did, I would not need to vacuum the stairs and she would not need to nag me to do it. The Mindboggling Mrs. Miyoshi would be even more mindboggling if her special mental abilities included telekinesis. Sometimes I wish it would. But then again, as the saying goes, “If looks could kill, I’d already be dead.”
Even though she does not have telekinesis and her mind-reading abilities may be suspect due to the open book of a mind she reads everyday, The Mindboggling Mrs. Miyoshi does have at least one supernatural ability. She has the ability to make anybody call her on the telephone. She does not need to call and leave messages. (After all, that rarely works for those of us who are mere mortals in the ESP realm.) All she needs to do is think about somebody or say, “So and so needs to call me,” and the person in question will call. Almost immediately. It is an amazing phenomenon that I marvel at every time.
I suppose that when it comes down to it, The Mindboggling Mrs. Miyoshi probably does not really have ESP. She does read my mind and she can make people call her. But I must admit that since she can not vacuum the stairs with her mental prowess, she probably does not have supernatural abilities. Then again, the stairs do get vacuumed and she does not do it. Maybe there is something to her powers. Maybe not. At any rate, I do need to vacuum the stairs.
Oh. I hate it when she does that.
