A Little Rant · 15 December 2012

I was going to rant a little about what God has been doing in my life, but then I thought better of it. It is not that I think He will strike me down or anything. I just thought it through a bit and decided He knows what He is doing. I know He has a plan.

The reason I was going to rant was that I am going a bit crazy with my daily blog about eating and running toward health. One of my friends and fellow teachers asked me when I have time to write with all the things I have going. The simple answer is that I do not have any time. At least I thought that was the answer. Now I realize that we all make time for the important things. We all have plenty of time if we prioritize. Or maybe get up a little earlier.

Personally, I have been blessed (or cursed depending on your perspective) with the need and desire for little sleep. I wake up after about six hours of sleep or less. Pretty much every day. That extra hour or so of awake time gives me what I need to write and do the rest of my jobs. I still might not do them all very well, but I can at least get them done. Mostly.

If you have read this far, you might be wondering what I was going to rant about since I apparently have all the time I need. So here it is. My complaint is that God seems to be giving me too much.

I know that some people misquote the Bible and say He never gives us more than we can handle. The Bible really says that He will not let us be tempted more than we can handle. (1 Corinthians 10:13) The simple truth of the matter is that God is always giving us more than we can handle. Or at least He does with me. If I have no time, I have more writing ideas than I can start or finish. I have more projects than I can manage. I have more events on my schedule than I can really attend. That is situation normal for me. And for everybody. After all, I am sure God gives us all more than we can handle.

The reason God gives us more than we can handle is so we can rely on Him. For guidance, strength, and wisdom. And even time. He will not give us more time in the day, but He will give us a greater capacity to do the things we need to do. Currently, my greater capacity has come from a more stable energy supply than I have previously had. My whole new eating and health regimes have helped keep my energy up so I do not get into that afternoon lull as often as I used to. But when I do experience that lull, it is God telling me I need to sleep more at night and quit snacking on sweets.

When I stop to think about the craziness God has thrown into my life, I realize He is always preparing me for something. Maybe for something great. Or maybe just to live life to its fullest and give Him the glory. Either way, I know He has a plan. And even if I do not know what that plan is, I ought not rant too much about it.
