How Can I Say, "Goodbye"? · 8 February 2016
I would like someone to tell me
How I can say, “Goodbye”
To the man who’s been my hero
My whole entire life
To the man who’s wiped my tears away
When things don’t go my way
To the man who’s been there for me
Every single day
To the man who’s shown me right from wrong
And how to shine God’s light
To the man who told me to turn a cheek
But always end the fight
To the man who showed me servanthood
And modeled Jesus’ love
To the man who’s shown me how to honor
The good Lord up above
To the man who’s shown me how to love
My children and my wife
To the man who’s given all of us
The best years of his life
To the man who’s shown me servanthood
With all the things he’s done
To the man who’s never given up
Until the fight is won
I wish that I could say goodbye
Many years from now
That God would hear my little pleas
For a miracle somehow
But Dad would say he understands:
God must be glorified
Whether he lives through some miracle
Or whether he must die
Still, I wish that I could say goodbye
With more than a simple rhyme
I wish that I could say, “I love you”
Even just one more time
I know no one can tell me
How to say, “Goodbye”
To the man who’s been my hero
My whole entire life
But hopefully these little words
Are more than a feeble try
Now, to the man who’s been my hero
I say this last “Goodbye”
